Margot Handy is a rural North Carolina piedmont based artist pursuing education and formal training in painting and sculpture. She is soon to graduate with her AFA from Guilford Technical Community College. She plans to transfer to WCU to continue fine tuning her visual language and immerse herself in the Appalachian art scene.
Sometimes I feel disenchanted by the world around me. The flashing lights, the convenience, the sensationalism, it all makes me feel overindulged. The notion that all of human history has led up to this is quite interesting to me. In many ways we have not changed one bit. In others, we are unrecognizable. My work is to investigate these changes and consistencies with handmade objects. The through line from cave paintings to computer generated imagery.
